My approach to painting is essentially eclectic, ranging freely over as wide a variety of techniques, mediums and approaches as I can discover. I experiment to find appropriate ways to capture and represent the subjects I select.

Using Shapes & Forms

Interplay

Organic shapes, lines and colours - arising partly from deconstructed observations from life, partly from the push and pull of materials used - are vital aspects of my work.

These arise in response to what I see and feel in response to both the natural and human domains while the techniques I adopt are strongly influenced by the work of artists, ancient and modern, whose output I admire.

Exploring Landscapes

Using photographs as source material facilitates the use of distinctly different colour palettes to stimulate the viewer’s reactions to and interpretations of aspects of environments.

The final product frequently results from a series of happy accidents, often far removed from my initial thoughts and planning but always focused on exploring conjunctions and dissonances between colour and texture."

Capturing Moments

Paint has endless capacity for capturing and illustrating internal experiences in abstract form. Colours, shapes and textures can be combined to express thoughts and emotions, ranging from reactions to government policy to personal loss, delight and distress.
